SC likely to announce verdict in ad hoc judges case today

Supreme Court of Pakistan is likely to announce a brief verdict in much-anticipated case of appointment of ad hoc judges in Sindh High Court as the apex court resumed Friday the last-day hearing of the case. The 14-member bench is also mulling over the extra-constitutional steps of imposing emergency rule and dismissing more than 60 judges of the apex courts by then President General (r) Pervez Musharraf on November 3, 2007. On Thursday, former President Supreme Court Bar Association Hamid Khan and renowned lawyer Akram Shiekh completed their arguments against the imposition of emergency under provisional constitutional order (PCO) by General Musharraf. Attorney General Sardar ALtif Khan Khosa is presenting his stance in the court at the moment and he has been asked to complete his deliberations before the break. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has asked the lawyers to complete their arguments by today, after which it was being expected that the court will announce a brief verdict in the case today. Attorney General in his arguments said that the court's expected verdict in the case would write a new history in Pakistan and will end the "shadows of dictatorship" from the country.
