Shahi demands operation against anti-peace elements


KARACHI - Awami National Party Sindh President Senator Shahi Syed on Saturday condemned the ongoing target killings and acts of terrorism in the city. He said that impartiality of the law enforcement agencies would be checked in connection with the raids at the ANP offices and arrest of their workers. “We want all the no-go areas in the city to be removed, and if this does not happen, then we have right to take decision,” he added.
Shahi demanded the government to launch a grand operation against the elements involved in dismantling peace on the city.
He said that the operation should be started in accordance with the JIT report which had pointed out the culprits. He said that baseless accusations are being levelled against his party which is a shameful act.
“The city needs a responsible behaviour from its stakeholders,” he opined adding, “T he ANP is trying its level best to avoid the blame game, though its workers are being targeted.” He said that his party has already pointed out the culprits involved in creating law and order situation in the city.
He said that he would not be in a position to do any thing to stop his party workers from reacting to violence if a result-oriented operation was not launched against the target killers.
IGP for necessary steps for maintenance of peace in Karachi: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, has directed that all necessary steps be taken for the maintenance of peace in the metropolis.
A police statement here on Saturday said that the IGP issued instructions for patrolling, picketing, snap checking and other security measures for effectively controlling the law and order in the city.
It said that the IGP also called for flag march in the crimes-affected area by mobilising the police personnel of the respective police stations so as to foster sense of security among the residents and to restore the routine life of the metropolis.
Shah also directed that police mobiles and motorcycles should patrol the affected areas. The IGP said that action against criminals be ensured without any distinction.
He also directed that Sindh government has enforced Section 144 as well as ban on display of weapons.
