MQM blasts Rao’s allegations

KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) coordination committee member Haider Abbas Rizvi has said the recent series of allegations against the party reminded him of early 90s era when MQM was targeted discriminately, adding currently the party is being subjected to media trial.
He was addressing a press conference at Khursheed Begum Secretariat here on Thursday over the backdrop of allegations leveled by Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar who held a press briefing with MQM terrorists. MQM leaders Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Farooq Sattar and others were also present on the occasion.
Rizvi said despite the extensive media trail, the people of Karachi especially the voters of NA-246 gave mandate to Kanwar Naveed Jameel. MQM vowed to start separate province campaign, water crisis and started working as opposition, he added.
Denying all the charges leveled by SSP Rao Anwar, he said the press briefing of SSP Rao Anwar was repetition of the allegations against MQM by the establishment and the mindsets who do not want prosper Pakistan. He criticised the police officer and held him responsible for the murder of dozens of MQM workers in 92 operation. He mentioned the name of Kanwar Khalid Younus and Wakeel Ahmed Jamali, former members of assembly, were brutally tortured by the same police officer in mid 90s.
“I have declined such allegations hundred times but it is not enough, we must think that who is the beneficiary of the conspiracy,” he added. Rizvi categorically denied the affiliation of MQM with Indian intelligence agency RAW or in any terrorism activity. He asked the media persons to investigate the truth behind the press conference by the police official and reveal the facts that who are behind this political drama. He said both the workers were arrested before the press briefing. Tahir was arrested on February 26 while Junaid was arrested on March 24 by the personnel in plain clothes. Families of both the workers have filed their petitions on February 28 and March 28 respectively, he added.
Where is government of Sindh. Who had directed to commit such conspiracies? There is a need to unfold the conspiracy against the MQM as MQM mandate has repeatedly been checked. When the drama of politicising and victimising MQM on allegations will end, he asked. He said it took 18 years to wash the allegation of Hakim Saeed murder and at that time, the government of MQM in Sindh was dissolved on the basis of this murder. Prime Minster and establishment should think that this policy will end with a disaster.
MQM is more patriotic than anyone else in the country. “It does not need certificate from the police officer.” SSP Rao Anwar is a corrupt officer having links with the illegal entities, he alleged.
“We trust MQM chief Altaf Hussain and we live and die for MQM. We are proud to be a Pakistani. Such regret of nationalism is remorseful.” He cited the meeting in Chief Minister House between Asif Ali Zardari and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and another unknown but highly influential personality. “We are the founders of the country and no one can snatch our right of this association with the country.
Rizvi said no one can steal the rights of MQM to live peacefully in the country. He termed the press conference a political drama, saying these tactics would strengthen the party in the court of the people.
To a question about formation of new provinces, he said people were demanding for new provinces and Altaf Hussain had also proposed of establishing 20 new administrative units in the country as it was essential for the prosperous Pakistan.
Taking notice of SSP Rao Anwar press conference, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has directed IG Sindh to submit the report immediately.
