KARACHI - London’s Metropolitan Police on Monday cancelled the bail notices of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and five other party members in the money laundering case, BBC Urdu reported on its website.
The Metropolitan police released a statement stating that all the six accused have been informed regarding the decision.
It, however, said that the investigation against them has not been dropped and they haven’t been arrested. Metropolitan police added that the bail cancellation does not mean that no action will be taken against the six men.
The MQM also released a statement saying that the bail of MQM chief Altaf Hussain and senior party members Tariq Mir and Mohammed Anwar has been cancelled in relation to the ongoing investigation into allegations of money laundering.
“The bail cancellation notice for all three states that, ‘at the time of writing there is insufficient evidence to bring a criminal charge’,” read the MQM statement.
The police statement, however, does not include the name of suspects but only their respective ages and date of arrest.
It said that “among these is a 61 year old man who was arrested on June 3, 2014, others include a 73 year old, a 45 year old, a 41 year old, a 27 year old and a 65 year old man”.
The London Police further said that no time frame can be given about the completion of investigation. The police statement clearly states that the money seized in this case will remain in police custody before the inquiry ends.
