Shujra pleads PPP’s innocence

KARACHI - Sindh Minister for Rehabilitation Muzafar Ali Shujra asserted on Tuesday that certain forces in the country were using the youth for their unsavoury aims and that the PPP had been sincerely working for peace in the country and its financial hub.
The PPP, Shujra told a news conference at the party’s Media Cell, believed in a non-violent policy. “We request the media not to portray the wrong aspect of the operation in Lyari,” added the PPP leader as he dispelled the concerns that the action was against a specific community, ie, the Balochs.  Certain “political orphans” were airing such views without any in-depth understanding of the issue, he alleged while adding, “Lyari is the bastion of the ruling PPP, while the Balochs are in its (PPP) heart.” He made clear that the operation was against criminals and gangsters, not the Baloch community.  Shujra recalled that the media and traders had expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation, besides the increasing incidents of extortion and kidnapping for ransom in Karachi. “And when an operation was started against criminals, then some media outlets portrayed it otherwise.” The minister told the media that his ministry had, following the directives of President Zardari, set up camped those evacuated from Lyari in five districts and arranged 20,000 ration bags for them. Shujra also condemned Lyari Aman Committee leader Zafar Baloch’s allegations against the PPP, contending that the party believed in brotherhood.
