Sindh police’s CID to work under Nacta

KARACHI - Crime Investigation Department of Sindh Police will start working under the newly-established country’s top counterterrorism body National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta).
Sources privy to the matter revealed that the decision has been taken to increase coordination among the provincial security forces.
It is worth mentioning here that in Punjab, CID has already been renamed as Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) which is started working under the Nacta. The CID departments of other provinces will start working with Nacta including Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
They told that the CID is currently busy in preparing a proposal to set terms and conditions to work under the Nacta. Sources said the final proposal would be submitted to IGP Sindh, followed by Sindh chief secretary, Sindh chief minister and finally the federal government for approval.
Currently, three units – Counter Terrorism and Financial Crime Unit, Interrogation and Analysis and Sectarian Intelligence Unit are working under the Anti-Terrorism Wing of the CID headed by CID DIG Zafar Bukhari. Another unit known as Anti-Extremist Cell is working under the CID Operations SSP. The CID is also functioning by the CID Operations SSP Sukkur and CID Operation SSP Hyderabad in their ranges and both comes under the CID DIG.
“Though it has already been done in the Punjab and there is a need to do it here also,” said a senior CID officer and in-charge CTFCU, Raja Omar Khattab. “By renaming CID with CTD, it will get an international identification.” Khattab said.
The department would get additional equipment, weapons and training under the Nacta. It will also be able to get a striking force which comprising commandoes of the elite force during the raids. Khattab further said it would also help the force to combat terrorism more efficiently.
