‘New LG Ord an undemocratic act’

KARACHI  - Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has termed the issuance of new Local Government Ordinance “an undemocratic and non-political act”, as the provincial government has introduced the new LG Ordinance without consultation and consensus of the political parties. He said the authorities concerned had yet not finalised and rectified the delimitation and voters’ lists.
“The political parties have rejected the newly-introduced LG Ordinance as it has become a ‘ploy’ between the former coalition partners PPP and MQM,” he added.
JI Karachi chief further said the provincial government on the directives of Supreme Court had hinted to hold LB elections, but its non-serious attitude towards holding the LB polls indicated that the PPP government was not eager to conduct them.
“MQM has strong reservations on the introduction of new LG Ordinance but the fact is that the Ordinance is being issued by the consent of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad,” he asserted.
He further said the provincial government had intentionally produced complications in the newly-introduced LG System to refrain the public representatives from participating in the polls.
Naeem said the entire nation witnessed that the problems of masses had been resolved with the introduction of City District Government and record development works had also been done in this tenure. However, the rulers, just for the sake of their vested interests, have introduced a new complicated LG system.
