KARACHI - The permanent as well as employees recruited on contract basis in Sindh Population Department are deprived of their monthly salaries for the last 16 months, causing difficulties to run their family matters when prices of daily items are increasing with each passing day.When the elected government of PPP, which has been claiming of giving jobs to the unemployed, the employees from grade one to 15 recruited in the Population Department working without monthly pay for over one and half year.The delay of salaries from the Sindh government has compelled the employees of the population welfare department to launch the protest hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club.The employees of population department under the umbrella of All Pakistan Clerk Association Sindh Chapter led by its President Peeral Dayo staged hunger strike in support of their demands at Karachi Press Club on Saturday.Other government employees including Sakina Ali, Shaheen Qudoos, Nadeem Zia, Younas and others participated in the token hunger strike. Peeral Dayo told The Nation that at least 56 employees recruited in the Population Department, of which 22 were employed on deceased/death quota. All the employees were fall in grade one to 15 in the department recruited as stenographer male and female, clerks, peons, and other categories, he said. The employees performing their duties with honesty but they have been deprived of their monthly salaries for last sixteen months, he unveiled, alleging that the Secretary of Population Department Saleem Raza Khuhro is responsible for delay in the payment of salaries of the employees.He demanded the higher authorities of the government to remove the provincial secretary of the population department as he has been failed in resolving the genuine demands of the employees including payment of their monthly salary.When the PPP government sloganeering of employment for all than why it not regularising the services of the 1250 male-mobilisers and other employees like it did Lady Health Workers. He said that employees who had been serving in the population department for many years but deprived of facilities and seniority. He demanded the PPP government to fulfill the promise of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto by regularising their services before completing the tenure of the present assemblies. Chief of Association of Population Welfare Department further demanded the Sindh government to regularise the services of the employees as well as introduce seniority list and time-scale for the employees of population welfare department.He also asked the government authorities to initiate probe by NAB into the alleged irregularities in the funds of the population welfare department used in various schemes. Meanwhile, protesting employees of the population department including female staff while sharing their problems with TheNation narrated that at least 22 people were recruited on deceased/death quota but they were still deprived of the salaries for last 16 months.They said that each of them was employed after the death of their father or mother on deceased quota but despite performing duty regularly they were not getting salaries for long period of over a year.Some of the female employees said that even they were recruited on permanent basis on deceased but still not receiving salaries. When contacted, Provincial Secretary of the Population Department Saleem Raza Khuhro contradicted the allegations and claims of employees of not receiving salaries for last sixteen months. Population Secretary claimed that department has not stopped the salary of employees as all the permanent and contractual employees are receiving the salaries every month.He said that population department had not made recruitment after the ban imposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan.This news was published in The Nation newspaper.
