KARACHI - Unabated gang war claimed a life of a two-year-old girl and wounded eight others here on Monday.
Two-year-old Rasheeda lost her life while her mother namely Gul Jabeen, 26, was wounded when awan bomb, fired by unidentified gangsters, hit a rickshaw in which they were travelling at Chakiwara Road.
The victims were the residents of Maula Madad Road. Witnesses said soon after they started travelling in the rickshaw, suddenly an awan bomb hit a rickshaw, injuring a woman and killing her daughter on the spot. Residents of the area said least two awan bombs were fired by the gangsters from different locations in the area to target their rival group members.
Both of them were immediately taken to Civil Hospital. Other injured persons included Humaira, 35, her four-year-old son Ibrahim, Anwar, 35, Ibrahim, 40, Shahjahan, 33, Ayaz, 35, and Nabeel, 30.
Following the incident, extra contingent of law enforcers reached the site and cordoned off the area and also conducted search operation in the area. Police officials also claimed to have apprehended over half dozen suspects during a search operation following the bomb attacks.
This is the second consecutive day of gang war between the two groups of gangsters of Uzair Baloch and Baba Ladla. Earlier on Sunday, nearly half dozen gangsters were wounded during the gang war between the two groups in Lyari.
Residents said the area where recent attacks occurred was the stronghold area of the Uzair Baloch group.
SHO Yasin Gujjar said extra contingent of the law enforcers had already been deployed in the area. Search operation was continued in the affected areas to make the arrests of the gangsters involved in attacking each other as well as the residents. A case has been registered.
Moreover, two women among five people were killed in various violent incidents here on Monday.
Shoaib alias Bashir, 48, was shot dead by unidentified persons in Altaf Nagar area within the jurisdictions of Manghopir police station. Police said the victim recently shifted to Hub Chowki area from Liaquatabad locality. Unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle shot him dead over unexplained reasons. Police officials said a case had been registered. Further investigation was underway.
A young man namely Saqib was shot dead in B Area, Korangi. Police officials said the victim was a barber by profession and was apparently killed over personal enmity. The body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and later handed over to his family.
In another incident, a security guard was shot dead at Madina Colony in Jamshed Quarters. The victim was identified as M Sukhar, 45. Police officials said the victim was deployed at a bakery where unidentified persons came and shot him dead. The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.
A woman was found dead from bushes in Khuda Ki Basti area. The victim has yet to be identified. Police officials said the body was around eight days old. The woman was strangled to death by unidentified persons before dumping her body. The body was moved to morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification.
In separate incident, a woman was burnt to death inside her in-laws’ home at Christian Muhallah near Kati Pahari. The victim was identified as 35-year-old Saima. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to her family for burial process. Police officials said the victim’s in-laws claimed that she was burned while cooking in the kitchen. Police were also waiting to record the statements of the victim’s parents. The case will be registered if the victim’s parents will claim that she was murdered.
