Election of SBC chairman rejected

KARACHI - The members of Sindh Bar Council (SBC) on Tuesday rejected the election of the vice chairman of SBC and chairman of executive committees and termed it as illegal election which held on January 29, 2009. As per detail, the members of SBC including Abdullah Chandio, Mustafa Lakhani, Muhammad Sadiq Hidayatullah, Salahuddin Khan Gandapur, Muhammad Khalil Dogar, Sathi Ishaque, Fahim Riazuddin Siddiqui, Yasin Khan Babar and Mushtaq Hussain Shah, have expressed their shock and surprise to see the news item carried by newspapers on January 31, 2009. The news was published about the election of vice chairman and chairman of different committees of Sindh Bar Council which were held on January 29, in which former President of Karachi Bar Association (KBA), Mehmood-ul-Hassan and Ali Muhammad Dairy were elected as vice chairman and chairman of Executive Committee respectively. They said that the meeting of the SBC and the election of Vice Chairman were postponed till February 15. The postponement order was given by the chairman of the SBC vide order dated January 26. They further claimed that holding of Sindh Bar Council's meeting on January 29 by some members of the Council was in violation of the order of the chairman and accordingly all proceedings including election of Vice Chairman, Chairman Executive Committee, Chairman and members of other committees are illegal and of no legal importance. The next meeting of the council is scheduled to be held on February 15, when election of the Vice Chairman and Chairmen of other Committees will be held under the chair of the SBC chairman.
