The Sindh High Court (SHC) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court (AJKHC) have disposed off the Muttahida Qaumi Movements (MQM) petitions over postponement of elections on two seats of AJK immigrants in Karachi and new election schedule has been announced for said constituencies. According to new schedule, polls for LA-30 Jammu-1 and LA-36 valley-1 would be held on July 20. Earlier polls on the said two seats for AJK immigrants were postponed by the Election Commission due to security reasons in Karachi. The MQM had alleged that the PPP was demanding one seat from Karachi but after its refusal the PPP postponed polls of both seats citing security reasons. After the decision of both High Courts, the AJK Election Commission has formally announced that by-polls would be held on July 20. It is worth mentioning that the PPP had asked for one out of these seats from Karachi which led to differences between the PPP and MQM and refusal and cancellation of the elections led a split between the two coalition parties. Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad had also resigned from the governorship due to same reason.
