MQM flays killing of women on jirga decree

KARACHI – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Coordination Committee on Sunday condemned the killing of five women in Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on the decree of a local jirga.The committee expressed deep concerns on the killing of the five women on the charge of singing and dancing at a wedding event and termed it as a shameful and condemnable incident. The committee members said that the killing of five women was the notion of concern for the humans and women rights organisations. They said the incidents like that portrayed the image of Pakistan like a terrorists and extremist state.They said that this was the responsibility of the intellectuals, scholars and columnists to play their role to eliminate the extremist thinking from the society, saying that this extremist thinking was dangerous for Pakistani society.The committee demanded President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Gilani, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and the KP chief minister to take immediate action against the killers of five women and underlined the need to implement the SC verdict against jirgas.
