KARACHI - The Hydra-head of tribal feuds is devouring the innocent lives in upper Sindh. The bread-earners, young men and heads of large families are falling prey to the bullets fired for no reason senselessly but the government is silent watching the monster destroy the fabric of a peaceful society. The democratically elected government of Sindh has miserably failed to handle the situation and carrying out its responsibility to provide safety to poor, innocent rural folks. Feudal lords, some of whom are allegedly directly or indirectly involved in the senseless killing are sitting on both side aisle of assemblies which are supposed to work for the safety and welfare of the people in the province. These feeling less lords who hold complete sway over the thinking and life of the uneducated deprived population are ruling the roost in the upper parts of Sindh. For them reports appearing daily in the print media or conveyed to them through their staff in the field is just a matter of routine. It does not hurt them or move them because according to their tradition it is the fate of the poor to die for the pride of the tribe. They hold sickening Jirgas in flagrant violation of Sindh High Court verdicts and instead of dousing the flames of tribal feuds stoke them. Sindh High Court has declared Jirgas as illegal but there is no arm of law strong enough which could deter them from being part of the mayhem. More than one hundreds innocent have fallen prey at the altar of tribal feud but the government seems indifferent in the matter. Karo-Kari, kidnapping for ransom are part of the hydra head monster which has also brought miseries to the under privileged who have where to go to get justice. Even the highest court of the land looked helpless. If the number of news items appearing daily in the vernacular press highlighting the gory details of the killing is any indication of the situation of law and order obtaining in the country side it could be said that only the rule of jungle and powerful prevail. The province particularly the rural area is in grip of total lawlessness. There are a number of ongoing tribal clashes in upper parts of the province. Innocent people are killed each passing days with government continuously harping on the tune of improving law and order situation in the province. The vernacular dailies are replete with the stories of blood sheds in the name of tribal clash between various warring tribes and honour killings. According to reports, about 114 persons lost their lives in deadly inter-tribal clashes involving Chachar-Lolai, Lund-Bozdar and Arbani-Lolai communities, out of which 47 persons were killed alone in Kosh-Solangi tribal clashes. The upper parts of the province are in the grip of tribal feuds between Solangi-Kosh, Chachar-Ghota clans, which resulted in loss of number of invaluable lives. In Khanpur-Mehar, three youngsters were murdered in cold blood in Bozdar-Gadahi tribal feuds recently. In Sujawal a father and his son were murdered in internecine fight in the Rind tribe. Reports said that two persons were killed in an armed clash between two groups of Umrani tribes in Shahdadkot on Tuesday. Police as a matter of routine have registered case. Kidnapping for ransom is another plague that has becomes an order of the day. Unknown persons riding in a car kidnapped two girls Anita 22 and Kishni 20, from the industrial area of Hyderabad on Tuesday evening. The girls, who were working in factory, were kidnapped when they were on their way home from duty. Though a democratically elected government is in power for the last two years in the province, the situation has remained unchanged. Killing of the innocent is not restricted to rural areas, urban centres are plagued with target killings, kidnapping, broad day robberies and streets crimes. While in upper part of the province, it seems that law of jungle is prevailing, rule of law is misnomer, administration and police are non-existent and lawlessness is at its peak. Only the print media highlights these issues and the more effective electronic media totally ignore them and concentrate on sensational issues like electricity theft, bribery scandals and bomb blast. For them a persons killed in a bomb blast is more important than the rural innocent who fall to the bloated egos of the tribal lords who attend state banquets and are invited to lavish parties thrown by so called liberal foreign missions who in their own land would show no mercy even to tax evader what to talk about a murderer or his supporter.
