KARACHI - Six people including a former union council councillor were gunned down in separate incidents here on Tuesday.
The former union councilor, belonging to Pakistan People’s Party, was shot dead along with his driver in Memon Goth area.
Police said the victim was identified as 45-year-old Allah Bachai, while her relative-cum-driver as Pir Muhammad, 50. They were going somewhere when unidentified assailants targeted them at Malir Bridge near Saleh M Goth within the jurisdictions of Memon Goth police station. Police said both the victims sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. Another relative whose identity was kept secret was also accompanied by them but he luckily escaped the attack. The bodies of the victims were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for autopsies and later handed over to their families.
The victim was the resident of Chaman Colony in Malir’s Khokhrapar and was also a former councilor of the area. His family claimed that they had personal enmity with their relatives over property disputes and their relatives were behind the incident. “We have been shifted from Khokhrapar and are currently living in Shah Latif area in hiding due to enmity. The culprits targeted the victims when they were going to Shah Latif area in their car.”
On the other hand, police officials also believed that the incident occurred over personal enmity. Memon Goth DSP Pervez Shah said the police were waiting for the family to register a case as what the family said that they will nominate their relatives in the FIR after the funeral. The police have initiated investigations.
In Memon Goth police precincts, the bodies of three men were found near from the Link Road. Police said they found the bodies after the locals informed them. All the three men, having beard, were clad in Shalwar Kameez and their hands were also tightened with ropes. Their bodies, however, were shifted to morgue for identification after medicolegal formalities at JPMC. Police said two victims were shot once in their heads from the back while another was shot twice in his chest and shoulder. “It seems that after kidnapping, the culprits brought them and shot them dead,” DSP Pervez Shah explained. The officer said the victims had no marks of torture on their bodies. He said the police had also collected the empty shells of the pistols used in their killings. A case has been registered. Further investigation was underway.
Meanwhile, a police constable Munawar, 30, who was deployed at an imambargah on security duty within the jurisdictions of Saeedabad police station, was killed accidentally when his gun was mistakenly fired. He died on the spot. The body was taken to Civil Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to the family.
