Nationalists to continue protests till revocation of SPLGA

KARACHI - The Sindh Save Committee, comprising nationalists, federal and religio-political parties, on Wednesday announced to continue the protest demonstrations against the passage of controversial local government law all over the province until its withdrawal.After chairing a meeting of Save Sindh Committee, its convener and chief of Sindh United Party Jalal Mehmood Shah announced this while addressing a press conference at Haider Manzil. He said that new local government law is a ‘Zardari formula’ to rig the next general elections through financing the local governments. PML-N’s Saleem Zia, Sindh Tarqi Passand Party’s Dr Qadir Magsi, PML-F’s MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, Awami Tehreek’s Qadir Ranto, Awami Jamhori Party’s Abrar Qazi, PPP-Shaheed Bhutto’s Haji Nazeer Madi and representatives of other parties also attended the meeting.Jalal Shah alleged that the PPP government and Sindh Assembly speaker for by-passing the assembly rules and democratic norms. He said that PPP which portrayed as champion of democracy has proven worse than Hitler. He alleged that the new local government was a copy of former dictator Musharraf’s 2001 local government system, which was enforced to benefit two parties, MQM in urban and PPP in rural areas. He continued that dual system has been imposed again through new local government law, which will never be accepted, adding that the protests demonstrations would be continued until withdrawal of this controversial law.He informed that two workers - Ali Raza Khaskheli of Jeay Sindh Tehreek in Nawabashah and Abdul Malik Nohani in Digir - were killed by the armed men of PPP leaders, when the nationalist parties were staging peaceful protest against the new law. He appealed to the people of Sindh for social boycott of PPP leaders for its anti-Sindh legislation. Jalal Shah alleged the new local government law was a plot to rig the next general elections as government had planned to post their own officers and make financial corruption. He appealed to the Chief Election Commissioner to freeze the funds of the local government before the next elections. The nationalist leaders announced that they will organise a public meeting and sit-in on October 10 outside the Karachi Press Club against the new law, besides they all the leaders will start mass contact campaign to further gear up the struggle, which will start with public meeting in Badin and Tando Muhammad Khan on October 12 and 19 respectively.He said that they also issued a ‘white paper’ carrying the negative clauses of the controversial local government law. Condemning the killing of TMO Nusrat Wagan and Superintendent Jail in the City, nationalist leader said that the Sindhi speaking officers were being targeted in Karachi, which is a message to the other officers.
