US journalists visit Nine-Zero

KARACHI - A delegation of US journalists, led by Shabbir Cheema, director of the Asia-Pacific Governance and Democracy Initiative (AGDIA) of the East-West Centre Honolulu, visited Nine-Zero, the MQM’s head office, on Wednesday.
The delegates – Tara Bahrampour of the Washington Post, John Diaz of the San Francisco Chronicle, Jenna Fisher of the Christian Science Monitor, Larisa Epatko of the PBS News Hour, Dan Boyce of the University of Montana and Terry Anzur of the Media Coach Centre –were accompanied by Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency Project Manager Jawdat Bilal.
The foreign journalists met MQM Coordination Committee deputy conveners Dr Farooq Sattar, Nasreen Jalil, its member Mustafa Kamal, Wasay Jalil and Kunwar Khalid Younus.
During the meeting, the history and underlying reasons of violence in Karachi came under discussion.
The delegation was briefed in detail about the demographic characteristics of the city and the problems being faced by the people in the absence of a local government system.
The guests were presented with the book “My Life’s Journey” and “Pictorial Biography of Altaf Hussain”. The delegates also presented a souvenir to the MQM committee.
