Pak artistes return after threats from Shiv Sena

KARACHI - Renowned Pakistani comedians Shakeel Siddiqui and Kashif Khan returned home Thursday from India as relations between the two countries deteriorated in the wake of deadly attacks in Mumbai. According to the sources, the Pakistani artistes were receiving threats form Hindu extremists and Shev Sena leader Bal Tahkery, who said that they would not be allow Pakistani artistes to perform on Indian soil. Shakil Siddiqui and Kashif Khan had been performing in Indian TV channels programmes Comedy Circus and 'Kantay Ki Takkar' for last several months. They have won hearts of millions of Indians including Hindus and Muslims with their talents. Talking to The Nation on Thursday, Shakeel Siddiqui said that he and Kashif Khan returned to Pakistan to save themselves from any untoward incident in India. He said that they did not want to stay in Mumbai and risk their lives after the relations between both countries were fast deteriorating these days. Siddiqui said he told the Sony TV administration that it would be better that they go back to Pakistan under the prevailing circumstances and return only after the ongoing tense situation diffuses. He opined that time has come that leaders of both countries sit together and explore ways to restore normal peaceful relations. He further said that he had also worked in an Indian film "Saddiyan" directed by Raj Kanwar, while other actors were Reekha, Rishi Kappor, Pakistan actor Javed Sheikh and the hero was Love Senha, son of veteran Indian actor Shitrogun Senha. Speaking on the occasion, Kashif Khan said that when a Hindu political organisation sent threats and a group of angry mob attacked outdoor shooting in Mumabi, they decided to leave India till an improvement in the ongoing tense situation. Kashif said that he was performing in the Sony TV programme "Comedy Circus" along with Shakeel Siddiqui and two Indian actors. It may be noted that several other Pakistani actors, singers, directors and film makers who had planned to go to India in the near future to work in films, mini screen dramas, comedy shows, comedy competitions, etc. have also cancelled their visits in the wake of Mumbai attacks. Meanwhile, renowned Pakistani actress, Meera, has also returned from India.
