MPAs demand practical steps to curb killings

KARACHI - The lawmakers of the Sindh Assembly have asked the provincial government to take practical steps for protection of peoples’ lives as over 6,000 citizens have became victim of targeted killings during last five years in the City.
They offered prayer for the deceased soul of slain MQM MPA Manzar Imam and others in Sindh Assembly on Monday. The assembly session adjourned till Wednesday (tomorrow).
The House which started at 11.45am against schedule time of 10am with Acting Speaker Shehla Raza in the chair.
They also offered prayer for the deceased souls of Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Prof Ghafoor Ahmed, noted writer Sirajul Haq Memon, ANP’s senior minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, Balochistan’s former chief minister Jam Muhammad Yousaf and others and specialty the victims of ongoing target killing in Karachi.
Almost all the MPAs urged the government to take practical steps for protection of the lives as more than a dozen people being fallen victim in targeted killings every day in the City.
MQM’s MPA Khalid Bin Wilayat while requesting for prayer said that murder of MPA Manzar Imam was not the first incident of terrorism in the City but law and order situation was worsen here. He urged the government to review the law and order steps and devise priorities to ensure security of the citizens.
Another MPA Saifuddin Khalid of MQM said the law and order was worsening in Orangi Town area for last two-three months. He said that over 50 workers of the MQM had been killed during three months in the City. He urged the government to focus on Orangi Town to ensure peace in the area. MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi of PML-F from opposition benches remarked that targeting killings have been a routine matter, which claimed lives of about 6,000 people during last five years. 
She emphasised that instead of offering only prayers for the victims, the government should take practical steps to control the law and order situation.
Another MPA Rana Abdul Sattar of PML-F from opposition side came down hard against the government and said that people who voted ministers asking questions that what was being done by the government for protection of lives and property.
Hundreds of people fallen victim of targeted killings in the city but government was doing nothing against the terrorists, he alleged. He suggested involving community peoples to curb the crime in the City.
He proposed that every MPA should provide at least one hundred volunteers to help the police in their area otherwise the police, rangers and Army could not control the increasing incidents of the all kind of crime in Karachi.
Aleemur Rehman of MQM said that workers of the Altaf Hussain were ready to sacrifice their lives in the line of truth.
MQM’s Muqeem Alam said, “Even we elected members are not saved from the terrorists, so the government has to take concrete measures to eliminate such elements.”
Another MPA Muzahir Ameer Khan said that location of MQM’s lawmaker Manzir Imam was killed in Orangi Town is same where Shias and others were targeted.
He unveiled that the when everyone is talking about the presence of Taliban, the area of Orangi town police station is a sensitive but it working with only 47 cops against sanctioned strength of 179, which is insufficient to cope up any eventuality and law and order.
MQM’s Minister Abdul Haseeb disclosed that when an arrested terrorist Waseem Baroodi confessed that MPA Manzar Imam was on their hit-list but why steps was not taken by the government to eliminate such elements and provided extra security to the slain MPA.
He said that Manzar Imam had left a message that we should not succumb to the terrorists and will be ready to sacrifice out lives for security and strengthening of Sindh and Pakistan.
Bilqees Mukhtar of MQM said that about 15 people are being killed every day in the city, so instead of offering fateha government should take specific measures against the terrorists, whatever extremist group, religious or political party they belong.
She cautioned that if concrete steps not taken now, the next target of terrorists could be another MPA form us.
The lawmakers also offered prayer for early recovery of MQM chief Altaf Hussain, MQM’s ministers Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari, former sports minister Dr Muhammad Ali Shah and others.
Later, on the request of Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, the Acting Speaker without taking up further business adjourned the proceedings till Wednesday in mourning of MQM’s MPA.
