‘Democratic forces to strongly resist conspiracies’


KARACHI  - Punjab Governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood here on Friday said that all democratic forces in the country wanted to see the present elected democratic government to complete its tenure and the democratic system to move on its way.They will strongly resist all kind of conspiracies to derail democracy in the country, he said. “I salute all democratic forces who have taken care of and strengthened the democracy,” the governor remarked during a media chat on his arrival at Jinnah International Airport.He said it was for the first time in Pakistan’s history that the country was moving towards democracy from democracy. In the past, he continued, the situation was different. To a question from media, Punjab Governor said that he had already suggested to Allama Tahirul Qadri not to put his (Qadri) followers on test without any justification.“Qadri’s followers might face serious problems due to severe cold in Islamabad and around on January 14,” he said. To another query, Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood said that as a governor he would play his role with honesty, sincerity and seriousness, and would dully facilitate all the political parties in the coming general elections.PUNJAB GOVERNOR CALLS ON PRESIDENT: Punjab Governor Makhdum Syed Ahmed Mahmud called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House on Friday.Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was present during the meeting.President Zardari congratulated Makhdum Mahmud on assumption of the office of the governor and expressed hope that the people and the province would benefit from his abilities and acumen.Situation in the province, especially the developmental projects aimed at socio-economic uplift of the people, were discussed during the meeting.The governor thanked the President for reposing confidence and entrusting him the responsibility. He assured the President that he would continue to do his best for the welfare of the people, strengthening of political and state institutions in the province and dispensing his constitutional responsibilities with utmost sincerity and devotion. The President also hosted lunch for the governor.Earlier, on his arrival at the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport on Friday, the Governor of the Punjab, Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood was warmly welcomed by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. Senior Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Commissioner Karachi, Hashim Raza Zaidi, Political Consultant to CM Sindh, Siddique Abu Bhai were also present, says a CM House statement here on Friday.Later, both the leaders discussed matters of mutual interest at VIP lounge. The chief minister apprised the Punjab governor about political and developmental activities in Sindh. The governor thanked the Sindh chief minister for the warm welcome.
