City returns to normalcy



KARACHI  - The situation in the commercial hub of the country has returned to normalcy after observing a mourning day on Monday against the killings in Abbas Town blasts.
The educational institutions, public sector and private offices, commercial centres, petrol pumps and almost all markets are opened and transporters have started plying vehicles on the roads.
Traffic flow was disturbed for some time at a portion of Preedy Street and MA Jinnah Road because the MA Jinnah road was sealed with containers. Later the containers were removed and the road was opened for traffic.
Police and Rangers have made active security arrangements at important places in the metropolis.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad on Tuesday directed the police for immediate removal of roadblocks by containers from main artery of the city here.
It may be recalled that by placing containers MA Jinnah Road was blocked yesterday in view of the prevailing situation in the city, following Abbas Town blast, but these could not be removed although city returned back to normal this morning, causing much inconvenience to the commuters including office-goers, students and the general public.
Meanwhile, Speaker of Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro Tuesday expressing deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Provincial Minister Rafique Engineer, termed his death a great loss of PPP and Sindh.
He said that Rafique Engineer was one of the best parliamentarians in Sindh and he always highlighted Sindh and Public issues in the Assembly and on every available fora. His death is great loss for us, he remarked.
Khuhro paying rich tributes to his political, social and human rights services, said his services will be long remembered.   
Moreover, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has expressed deep sorrow and grief over death of a spiritual leader Sain Syed Hajan Shah Ghazi.
According to an official handout issued here Tuesday, Syed Hajan Shah, spiritual heir of Ghulam Shah Ghazi Syed Hajan Shah shrine, was seriously injured in an attack on the shrine in the village of Maari near Shikarpur on February 25. He succumbed to injuries at a hospital here on Monday.
Qaim prayed for the departed soul and vowed to arrest assassins at the earliest and bring to account.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Qaumi in Pakistan and London discussed the future line of action after expiry of the three-day deadline given by MQM leader Altaf Hussain for arresting the perpetrators of the Abbas Town tragedy.
The meeting strongly condemned the fact that no action was taken against the terrorists responsible for the tragedy that struck in Abbas Town. It also noted that authorities have not reaching the blast and nothing was being done to bring help to the affected people. It has been decided in the meeting that the Co-ordination Committee will announce the future line of action through a press conference on March 6 (today).
The meeting offered condolences to the affected people and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
