KARACHI - The University of Karachi’s administration on Monday expelled a student who invited supermodel Ayyan for the inauguration of a business venture at the campus by the varsity’s students in August this year.
Admission of Araib Khan, a student in the Department of Public Administration has been cancelled and he will not be allowed to take admission in any course of the university in future, according to a notification of the registrar of the university, Dr Moazzam Ali Khan.
“You are found guilty of damaging the reputation of the Department of Public Administration as well as the prestige of the university,” reads the notification.
He has also been banned from entering the university’s premises. The supermodel’s visit to the varsity in August created an uproar with the university administration being heavily criticised for inviting an under-trial accused.
Her visit to the university came weeks after she was released from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. The supermodel was arrested on charges of money laundering by customs’ officials from Benazir Bhutto International Airport on March 14 after $506,800 were recovered from her luggage. She spent four months behind bars before securing bail.
Another student Abdullah Rizwan, who is also believed to be involved in organising the event, has also been barred from entering the varsity’s premises, as well as from taking admission in any programme at the KU.
Talking to media, Araib however denied the university claims and said he has not received any notification or official statement in this regard.
“I have only come to know of the news of my expulsion through media channels and have not been informed by any university official nor have received a notification regarding this,” Araib said.
