Five more killed in Karachi violence

KARACHI - Five people, including a policeman, were shot dead in separate acts of violence in Karachi on Wednesday.
A head-constable Raja Tariq was gunned down in Jamshed Goth area. Police said the victim was deputed outside a private factory on security duty when armed riders appeared on the scene, opened fire on him, and fled. The body was moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and later handed over to the heirs. The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
A man namely Hanif Mughal was killed in a targeted attack near Korangi level-crossing. Police said the victim was going somewhere when pillion riders carrying weapons targeted him. Police suspected he might have been killed over personal enmity. The body was handed over to the heirs after medico-legal formalities at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
A mechanic Qasim Hanif was shot dead near Jubilee Market. Police said the victim was going to his workplace from his home when unidentified attackers opened fire on him. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for postmortem and later handed over to the heirs.
A man namely Rafiq Din was mowed down in New Karachi’s sector 11. Police said the victim was sitting outside his residence when unidentified gunmen targeted him and fled. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to the heirs. Police believed personal enmity was the motive behind the murder. Victim’s son was shot dead in the same area a year ago.
Separately, a young man namely Bilal Gul was shot dead in Sultanabad locality of Manghopir area. Police said two unidentified armed men on a motorbike opened fire on him and escaped. The body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, a robber was killed and his accomplice wounded in an encounter between security guards and bandits outside a motorcar showroom near Port Qasim. Police said in a bid to enter the office the robbers resorted to firing and two of them received gunshot wounds when the attack was repulsed. Police rushed and shifted them to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared one of them as brought dead. Identity of the bandits could not be ascertained till the filling of this report.
