Bank survives dacoity as alarm rings

KARACHI- Timely ringing of the emergency alarm at a bank made robbers go empty handed here on Friday.

In Saddar area, some bandits were trying to rob a private bank on Abdullah Haroon Road within the remits of Preedy Police Station. Police said the bandits could not rob cash as the bank’s emergency alarm rang right at the eleventh hour. At this, a police team on a routine patrol reached on the spot and the situation left the robbers with no other option but to flee from the scene. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

Separately, an explosion took place at a private bank due to gas leakage caused panic in Liaquatabad No. 4 area. The window-pans, walls and roof of the bank were damaged due to the explosion.

Being informed, extra contingent of law enforcers and bomb disposable squad team reached there and cordoned off the area. However, no loss of life was reported in the incident.  Meanwhile, law enforcing agencies recovered a youth and arrested four alleged kidnappers-cum-target killers.

The name of the recovered youth was not disclosed due to the security reasons. The victim was kidnapped from Maripur Road about twenty days back and the kidnappers had kept him at their hideout in Singu Lane area of Lyari.

Separately, Korangi Industrial Area police also claimed to have arrested five alleged outlaws – Shafiq Bengali, Amir Farooqui, Qasim Burmi, Islam Bengali and Amjad Burmi – and recovered five pistols and a snatched motorcycle from them. Police officials said the accused are involved in number of cases of street crime.

Meanwhile, Malir City police registered an FIR against outlawed Peoples Ammn Committee’s Sohail Dada and eight other persons for killing MQM workers. Earlier, Mohammad Farhan, Mehtab and Mohammad Tauseef were killed while Farhan Idrees survived when unidentified armed men targeted them in Khokhrapar area. Police claimed to have arrested victim’s colleagues, Rehmatullah Khaskheli and Ashiq but could not arrest the prime culprits.

Separately, a large number of people under the umbrella of All Maheshwari Jamaat staged a demonstration outside the Press Club, protesting against the abduction of a Hindu girl – Suneeta – from Kario Ganhwar area in Badin district. They demanded the authorities concerned to take step for early recovery of the abducted girl. They also appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of matter and ensure justice to the victim family.
