KARACHI: Rangers surrounded MQM convener Farooq Sattar’s residence on Tuesday night while the party has expressed extreme concerns over the very act by the Rangers.

More than eight vehicles carrying as many as 30 paramilitary troops raided the street housing Sattar's residence at PIB Colony.

According to reports, entry and exit routes leading to Sattar’s house were sealed, drawing reservations from MQM.

Dr. Farooq Sattar was also present in his residence and stated that Rangers’ contingent surrounded his residence from the front door and back door.

Earlier, his wife talked to Rangers official  and asked for a search warrant, Sattar said.

Rangers surround came to an end as they had been looking for MQM MPA Kamran Farooqi but abandoned the raid over his absence.

Meanwhile, DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar has warned that no strike will be observed in the city and those trying to forcefully shut the markets will be dealt with iron hand.

Speaking to a TV channel, Sattar condemned the raid, saying that he has tried to contact director general of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) to express his concerns.

“I deserve better treatment after 30 years of my politics,” he said and demanded the paramilitary troops to allow media coverage.

To a query, he said the presence of any criminal at his residence is out of question.

"Are they trying to heal people's wounds or adding insult to injury," he questioned.

Talking to media and party workers who gathered outside his residence following the raid, exasperated Dr. Farooq Sattar questioned, “Under which law and Constitution of the land, is the kind of behavior being directed toward us?”

He continued, “Are we not Pakistani citizens? It is high time Prime Minister and Army Chief made a decision in this regard.”

Commenting on the Rangers raid at his residence, the MQM leader remarked he himself would have allowed search of his house, had DG Rangers told him about the intelligence regarding the presence of certain criminal.
