KARACHI - A 12-member delegation of diplomats of various countries under the aegis of the Karachi Council on Foreign Relations led by its Secretary General Ahsan Mukhtar Zubairi on Monday called on Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro at the committee room of Assembly. Nisar Khuhro warmly welcomed the delegation of diplomats. During the meeting, Khuhro told them about the history of the Sindh Assembly, saying that the assembly played a very significant role in the formation of Pakistan. He added that current assembly enjoyed the support of all political parties and with the consensus of all political parties, the federal and provincial governments were working for the stability of democracy and economic welfare of the people. He told the delegation that after 18th amendment, responsibilities of the provincial governments had increased and during the last four years, the assembly had passed many bills and made laws in the welfare of the people to get nation a confidence that country could be run better by the parliamentarians. Meanwhile, replying to a question put up by Romanian diplomat, MQM leader Syed Sardar Ahmed said the MQM was working with the PPP owing to their ideological closeness for the betterment of the people of the province. Pir Mazharul Haq, to a question, said that their party leader Benazir Bhutto gave her life for the sake of democracy in the country in 2007 and it was the result of her sacrifice that today all the political parties were united and working for the stability of democracy and democratic system in the country. Regarding the energy crisis, Khuhro said the previous governments did not pay any attention to the crisis but the current government was very well aware of the energy crisis and was taking serious efforts in the fields of solar and wind energy to solve this problem. Khuhro, to another question posed by the Indian deputy high commissioner, said that the relations between Pakistan and India were developing and the delegations of both countries were visiting to one another country and especially people to people contacts had been much appreciated and India had been give the status of MFN by Pakistan, which is a clear message that Pakistan wanted friendly relations with India, because in the economic field the people of both countries could enjoy a lot of benefits. Khuhro further told the delegation that judiciary and press are free and open and Sindh Assembly is the first provincial assembly in Pakistan, which gave the permission to the media of live telecast, so as the people could be aware of the performance of their representatives. Replying to another question put by diplomat of Newzealand about the agriculture sector in Pakistan, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that the distribution of water is a major problem, whereas, Sindh government is taking sincere efforts to improve this sector in the country by providing more and more facilities to the farmers. The ambassadors and high commissioners of the following countries were in the delegation such as Argentina, Newzealand, Sri Lanka, Romania, France, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Philippines, Cuba and India.Whereas diplomats of the delegations appreciated the efforts of Sindh Assembly working for the economic uplift and well to do of the people of province. Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro presented Sindhi Ajrak and caps to the members of the delegation as a gift. Meanwhile MPAs Dr Ahmed Ali Shah, Haji Munwar Abbasi, Dr Sikandar Mendhro and others were also present on the occasion.
