KARACHI – The City on Monday received heavy rainfall turning the weather pleasant.
Rain brought temperature down, however, traffic jams in various areas, including MA Jinnah Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Saddar and other busy roads and roundabouts were witnessed.
The manholes in front of People’s Secretariat Karachi was overflowed where knee-deep water stayed for long period that caused trouble to passersby and vehicles. Motorcycles in some areas also skidded off the roads with the start of rain causing slight injuries to the commuters.
Pakistan Meteorological Department has also predicted more thundershowers with gusty winds in Karachi and some other parts of Sindh on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, KMC Administrator Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that the resources for drainage of rainwater were utilised on Monday and heavy machinery, pumps and labour were used for drainage of rainwater. City wardens were also directed to restore traffic flow on City roads.
He said that staff and machinery, according to the requirements, were sent to the locations where rainwater accumulated whereas the arrangements for drainage of rainwater through cameras installed in the city were also monitored under command and control system.
Officers and staff were directed to ensure prompt drainage of rainwater and restoration of traffic flow so that citizens would not face any difficulty.
He further said that machinery, vehicles, pumps and labor were deployed for drainage of rainwater and cleanliness works in various areas of the city whereas Municipal Services, Fire Brigade, Parks and other concerned departments were directed to deploy their officers and staff on duty.
He said in case of more rains, the KMC officers and staff would remain present on the City roads and all possible measures will be taken for the elimination of problems faced by the citizens.p
