2 drown at sea

KARACHI - At least two people drowned while two out of five missing were rescued from various points of City’s beaches on Monday.
The first major incident took place at Sonehra beach in Maripur locality where five of a family drowned in deep sea while two of them were quickly rescued by the lifeguards. Search for other missing people, including Hanif, Faisal and Abdul Basit were continued.
The victims reached Karachi from Balochistan and went to the beach to enjoy drizzle when the incident occurred. Similarly, two minor boys were drowned at Sea View beach, Clifton. Both of them were rescued and were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where one nine-year-old boy Ashfaq died and Noman admitted for treatment. Meanwhile, a man was found dead from Sea View, Clifton. The body was shifted to morgue for identification.
Meanwhile, a low intensity blast wounded a minor girl in Old City areas.
The explosion took place in Shoe Market area of Garden where commercial activities were partially suspended while extra contingent of law enforcers reached the site and collected evidence. Police ruled out possibility of terrorism and said that the explosion took place on the third floor of an apartment which was owned by a technician of Police Hospital, Garden.
The injured girl was identified as Ayesha. DSP Zahid Hussain said that the explosive material was concealed in a cricket ball. “The victim’s brother found the ball from the street and was playing with it at home when it exploded.”  The injured was shifted to Civil Hospital from where she was discharged.
