KARACHI - The office of the ICL shipping company was completely gutted while the office of the Emirates shipping company was partially affected when a massive fire broke out on Friday. According to the fire brigade officials, the fire broke out at the office of the ICL which also partially damaged the office of another shipping company situated on the ground floor of the building. They said that there were about 100 workers present when the fire broke out and luckily no one was hurt in the incident. Most of them were already evacuated before the arrival of the firefighters and the personnel of the law enforcement agencies.After hectic efforts of two hours the fire was put out by over 20 fire extinguishers. Three snorkels were also dispatched to the site. Firefighters said they faced difficulties because of the massive blaze that caused a massive traffic jam on the busy II Chundrigar Road and its surrounding areas.Heavy contingent of law enforcers including Rangers and police also rushed to the scene and helped firefighters in extinguishing fire. Edhi and Chippa’s volunteers also helped in the rescue operation.Police officials said that apparently, the fire broke out accidentally and said that there was no need to register the case as the fire broke out accidentally.Chief Fire Officer Ehtishamul Siddiqui said cause of the fire would be determined after completion of the final report but he said that apparently, the fire broke out due to shortcircuit.
