Anti-polio vaccines to be administered


KARACHI - Additional vaccines for P3 polio virus would be administered during the immunisation campaign in Karachi, following emergence of polio’s P3-wild category in localities of the metropolis, officials said.
EDO Health Karachi, Imdad Ullah Siddiqui said Town Health Officers and representatives of union councils were called in a meeting to ensure a successful anti-polio campaign starting from September amid reports of P3 virus in Gadap, Baldia Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Sohrab Goath localities. Along with regular vaccination, he said, children below the age of five years would be also be administered oral anti-P3 virus drops. Siddiqui said the virus was spreading in the city through sewerage water. Heath authorities kicking off the campaign as the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced to suspend its polio vaccinations for an indefinite period over a spate of bloody shootings in July, putting more than 22,000 children at risk in the metropolis.
