Muttahida and ANP call off May 12 strike

KARACHI - Two coalition partners of PPP in Sindh have called off their strike calls on May 12 after govt decision of declaring a public holiday on the said day. MQMs Rabita Committee has called-off May 12 strike and announced it would hoist countrys national flags to express their solidarity with armed forces of Pakistan. Patriot people of Pakistan should rather hoist national flags on their rooftops on May 12 in all over Pakistan, the committee urged that after their meeting here on Saturday. On the other hand, Awami National Part backed Pakhtoon Loya Jarga has also withdrawn form their strike call on May 12. ANP Sindh President Shahi Syed while addressing a Press conference thanked the government for announcing May 12 as public holiday to commemorate the martyrs of May 12, 2007. Members of the MQM Rabita Committee attended the meeting at the Nine-Zero here, meanwhile the London-based Rabita committee members participated at the meeting in the partys international secretariat. MQM-backed Haq Parast Loya Jarga had called for a commercial shutdown strike to commemorate the victims of May 12, 2007 who hailed from the MQM. The Rabita Committee said that Pakistan passed through a critical phase because the Pakistani armed forces are taking due action against terrorists in the NWFP. Keeping in view this grave situation, Rabita Committee concluded that Pakistan doesnt need any sort of protest at this moment, said the statement of the Rabita Committee. Haq Parast Loya Jarga agreed with the recommendation of the Rabita Committee and called-off its strike and black day. However, After the decision of the MQM Rabita Committee to hoist national flags to express the solidarity with the Pakistan armed forces, the MQM workers started hoisting thousands of National flags across the metropolis. It may be noted here that Muttahida Qaumi Movement had earlier announced that it would support a strike call given by, Haq Parast Loya Jirga, for May 12.
