MQM-H worker, 3 others shot dead

KARACHI – As many as four people, including an activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi, were killed in a fresh wave of violence in different parts of the metropolis on Tuesday.A worker of the MQM-H was shot dead near Model Park, Malir, in the limits of the Saudabad Police Station. The victim, identified as 32-year-old Furqan, son of Omar Khan, a resident of Liaquat Market, was going to his in-laws’ place, when two armed men, riding a motorbike, opened fire on him. Furqan received a bullet in his head. He succumbed to his injuries at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. SHO Zulfiqar Bajwa said the victim used to run a toy shop in Liaquat Market. According to MQM-H leader Shamshad Khan Ghauri, the victim was an active party worker. He condemned the killing and demanded the government to arrest the killers. The body was handed over to the heirs.Separately, bullet-riddled body of a man was recovered near a navy building in the limits of the Landhi Police Station in the wee hours of Tuesday.The victim, identified as 35-year-old Qamar Qureshi alias Imran, son of Ahmed Qureshi, was a resident of Korangi No 4. His body was found from sector 44-C. SHO Mazhar Iqbal Awan said the victim received four bullets on his head, chest and legs, adding that he was missing since Monday night when he left for a clinic to get medicine. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. The SHO also said that the victim was father of four children and a painter by profession. He came to Korangi a year ago from Old Goilmar.  The official further said that the motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained. However, police officials believed that Qureshi might have been killed over personal enmity. No case was registered till the filing of this report.Separately, an elderly man – a senior member of the Pakhtoon Lower Jarga – was shot dead at Mehboob Manzil in the jurisdiction of the Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan Police Station. The incident took place at block T of North Nazimabad, where 75-year-old Haji Deen Mohammad Babar, son of Pir Mohammad, was sitting in front of his home, when a bike-borne armed duo opened fire on him. He received four bullets and was ferried to the JPMC for treatment but he died as he succumbed to his injuries. After the incident, scores of ANP workers reached the JPMC. Tension engulfed several areas of Karachi, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Kati Pahari, Banaras, North Nazimabad and SITE area. All major shops and markets were closed down due to uncertain condition of the locality. Spokesman for the ANP, Abdul Malik, said the victim was a senior member of the Pakhtoon Lower Jarga district central. He hailed from Zob, Balochistan. He said it was targeted killing, and demanded the government to arrest the killers. Later, the police handed over the body to the heirs. No case was registered till the filing of this report.Separately a young man, namely Sajjad Baloch, 27, son of Noor Mohammad, was gunned down in Ilyas Goth in the precincts of the Super Market Police Station. DSP Rustam Khattak said the victim was a resident of Ilyas Goth and was standing with his friends outsider his house when unidentified men, riding on a motorcycle, appeared on the scene and opened fire on him. Baloch received four bullets and died on the spot. The body was shifted to the ASH for medico-legal formalities. The body was taken away by the heirs after the completion of medico-legal formalities.  The DSP said the victim’s elder brother, Imran, was also killed in a similar manner seven days ago in Soldier Bazaar area.
