KARACHI - At least eight people including two cops and three political activists were killed in various incidents of violence Wednesday.
Unidentified gunmen sprayed bullets, leaving two cops dead at Paracha Chowk, within the remits of Site B Police Station.
Police said that constables Muhammad Khalid and Zahid Muhammad were on their routine snap checking near Pracha Chowck. As they intercepted motorcyclists for checking, they started indiscriminate fire and managed to flee from the scene. The cops were hurried to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.
In another incident, armed assailants gunned down two MQM activists near Bangali Para, Korangi. Police said the gunmen ridding on a motorbike started indiscriminate fire on Hassan Abdul Salam and Saeed Khan. They were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced them dead.
In another incident, gunmen ridding a motorbike shot dead a PPP activist Shoaib Shabbir. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Separately, 35-year-old Rashid, son of Muhammad Bashir, was gunned down near Tuba Masjid in Gulshan-e-Iqbal within the remit of Mobina Town Police Station. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Separately, the body of a woman, aged about 60, was found at a house in Mehran Town in Korangi within the limits of Korangi Industrial Area Police Station.
It was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for postmortem. The identity of victim could not be ascertained yet. Police said the body was two-day-old.
In another act of violence, some culprits barged into a house in Qalandarya area near Nusrat Bhutto Colony within the premises of Shah Noor Jahan Police Station. They opened indiscriminate fire on inmates, leaving a man identified as Muhammad Ali dead. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Police said the man was killed over a personal enmity.
Meanwhile, a young man Allah Rakha, 22, was injured in firing by unidentified armed man near Dawood Goth in Baldia Town. The injured was rushed to Civil Hospital for treatment.
On the other hand, 34 suspects have been arrested in on-going targeted operations in different parts of Karachi, a spokesman of the Rangers said. He said that suspected target killers and extortionists are amongst those arrested.
The Rangers conducted targeted house-to-house search operation in the metropolis’ area of Old Sabzi Mandi.
As many as hundred security personnel riding ten mobile vans cordoned off Old Sabzi Mandi area of Karnal in Wednesday’s wee hours and launched operation with the help of lady searchers and sniffer dogs.
The paramilitary troops conducted house-to-house search and took away numerous people for interrogations.
It merits mentioning here that the Rangers has launched operation in Nai Abad, Sangoleen, Chakawara, Phool Patileen, Football Stadium and Liyari General Hospital of related areas and close all entrance and exit points. However, police registered the case and started thorough investigation.
