KARACHI - Vice president of PML-N’s lawyers’ forum was shot dead by unidentified assailants in broad daylight at Rashid Minhas Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal police precincts on Thursday.
The incident took place at Block 7, Gulshan-e-Iqbal where unidentified motorcyclists sprayed bullets on the car, killing lawyer Syed Waqar Shah, 48, and fled.
SHO Orangzaib Khattak when contacted said the victim was going to court in his car (AUD-550) when gunmen targeted him. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced his death. The assailants managed to flee from the incident. Shah was the vice president of PML-N Sindh Lawyers Forum and also nominated for the position of Sindh Deputy Attorney General.
It is worth mentioning here that it was the fifth murder in last 24 hours in the same police remits of District East which occurred on sectarian grounds.
The information secretary of the PML-N, Ali Akbar Gujjar condemned the incident and put a question mark over the performance of Sindh government where targeted operation has continued for the last seven months.
Meanwhile, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar took notice of the targeted killing of Waqar Shah. The CJ has also asked for a report in this regard.
According to the police, it was a planned attack and the lawyer was shot three times.
Followed by the current spree of sectarian killings, police announced reward money of Rs0.5 million for those providing information about the assailants involved in the target killing. Police and Rangers have also constituted separate investigative committees to probe into the current incidents of sectarian killings.
Earlier, various areas of the City remained tense where funeral prayers of the victims of sectarian killings were offered on Thursday. The funeral prayers of three seminary students were offered at Madarassa Daraul Khair in which scores of people participated. The bodies of three students were shifted to their native province, Balochistan. The funeral prayer of police constable Saadat Khan who was gunned down in Baldia, Saeedabad was offered at Garden police headquarters. The funeral prayer of Ali Bahadur was offered at Khada Market Imambargah while doctor Qasim’s funeral prayer was offered at Hussaini Mission Imambargah, Shah Faisal Colony.
On the other side, in Pirabad police precincts gunmen opened fire at a tea stall which left a man dead. The culprits managed to flee while victim Asmatullah Khan, 22, sustained bullet wounds. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced his death. Police suspected personal enmity the reason behind the murder and later handed the body over to the family after autopsy.
