KARACHI- Many senior doctors have recently left Karachi after receiving extortion money chits and threats of kidnapping them and their children.
The government however has yet to acknowledge the growing harassment of the medical community in the city.
A very senior medical practitioner in Karachi said he himself faces such threats. The extortion mafia of Karachi has increased their activities, he added. He told that most of the harassed doctors silently paid the extortion money without reporting the matter; the security body of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) House only received 45 complaints from doctors.
The practitioner argued the government is solely concerned with the safety of traders and industrialists and ignores the medical community.
