KARACHI – The Palestine Foundation (PLF) Pakistan on Thursday called on political and religious parties and civil society to raise voice for the rights of the oppressed Palestinians. “Sixty-four years have passed, but Palestine is still under the illegitimate occupation of the Israelis and their supporters,” office-bearers of the PLF said with dismay. Asserting that Palestine belonged to the Palestinians, the PLF leaders urged the international community to play a pivotal role for the early return of scores of Palestinian refugees to their homeland. “For the past six decades, the Palestinians are faced with hostilities at the hands of the Zionists,” asserted the PLF leaders – Muzaffar Hashmi (Jamaat-e-Islami), Allama Qazi Ahmed Noorani (JUP), Maulana Aqeel Anjum (JUP), Mehfooz Yar Khan (AML), Shabbar Raza (Jafaria Alliance) and Sabir Karbalai - speaking at a press conference. “The United States, Europe and international community, through their actions and policies, proved that they are enemies of the Palestinians,” they added, and termed Israel’s annexation of Palestinian territories as illegitimate and unjust. To express solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians, the PLF announced countrywide programmes on Nakba Day on May 15 in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Islamabad, Hyderabad and Quetta and other cities. It also announced to hold a demonstration in Karachi on May 11 after Friday prayers outside Memon Masjid. Another demonstration would be held outside of the United Nations offices in Karachi on May 14 by students’ organisations and the PLF. On May 15, a seminar on “Palestine, A Country of Palestinians” would be conducted at the Federal Urdu University. The Palestinian ambassador to Pakistan would preside over the seminar wile PML-N chairman Raja Zafarul Haq, ANP Senator Haji Adeel Khan and minority leader Julius Salik and others would address. The PLF office-bearers demanded the world governments, including that of Pakistan, to play a pivotal role for the return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland.
