11 die from toxic liquor in Karachi

KARACHI - Eleven people died after consuming toxic liquor in Mehmoodadbad area of Karachi on Saturday night.
According to details, about fifteen people fell unconscious after drinking toxic liquor and ten of them expired during treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Condition of the others was reported to be critical.
The deceased were identified as Asif Masih, his brother Siddiqi Masih, Bashar Masih, his brother-in-law, Shahzad Masih, Raza Liaquat Masih, Victor Ayub Masih, Boota Younus Masih, Liaquat Nazar Masih and another. 
Another man, Sharafat, died in Sharafi Goth of Landhi area. SHO Mohammad Sarwar said police had arrested two bootleggers and had been looking for their associates. He said their main dealer, Dilawar, had escaped before raid on his house.
The SHO said both the suspects and all the victims belonged to the Christian community.
He said the suspects used to sell toxic liquor in Pak Colony, Jamhoria Colony and other parts of the city.
Doctors at JPMC feared the survivors might also lose their lives because their condition was still in danger.
Excise secretary Waseem Ursani also visited the hospitals and inquired about the incident. He ordered officials to take stern action against suppliers of toxic liquor.
