Journalist's brother shot dead

KARACHI - The brother of a journalist became the latest victim of target killing in the metropolis on Monday. As per details, some unknown culprits allegedly killed the brother of a local crime reporter near Fawara Chowk, Garden East within the limits of Garden police station. SHO Azam Gopang said that the victim Saeed, 26, son of Raheem Uddin, was the resident of the same area and used to run a motorcycle spare parts business and brother of a local crime journalist. He said four unidentified suspects pillion riders ambushed him when he was going home. The victim received a bullet in head and died in Civil Hospital Karachi during treatment. Police found five empty shells from the crime scene, he added. Gopang further said that the culprits looked like Baloch national and their affiliation might be with the gangsters of the Lyari. Police registered a case against unidentified suspects on the complaint of victims brother Akram Qureshi. Further investigation was under way. Separately, Korangi Industrial Area police found a seven-day-old decomposed body of a 26-year-old man from the Nullah near Darul Islam Mosque at Korangi crossing area. Police said that the identity of the victim could not be ascertained while the body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and later shifted to Edhi Morgue for identification. In another incident, a 60-year-old woman died when a rickshaw collided with a standing truck at Baldia Chandni Chowk in the limits of Saeedabad police station. Police said the victim Jannat, wife of Pir Muhammad, was going along with her daughter Shaista, wife of Abdul Wahid, in a rickshaw when the incident took place. Resultantly, she died at the spot while her daughter Shaista and rickshaw driver Sher Muhammad sustained injuries and admitted to Civil Hospital. They said the deceased was the resident of Baghdadi, Lyari area and going with her daughter for medical check-up. Man poisoned to death A man on Monday poisoned to death in Bhittai Colony in the limits of Ibrahim Hyderi police station. Police said that the incident occurred at Korangi no 6 at 'C area Bhittai Colony, where Asim Riaz, 26, died mysteriously by drinking some toxic substance. The victim was a labourer by profession and hailed from Mandi Bahauddin. He felt pain in his neck and took some medicine which made him unconscious. His family shifted him to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where he died during treatment. Police said some sort of poison claimed his life but they were waiting for complete post-mortem report. UTP fled from lock-up An under trial prisoner (UTP) on Monday fled from the City Court lock-up. As per detail, 17-year-old Aman, son of Yasir, was in prison since 2009 in the charges of 13-D and 392 from the jurisdiction of Mochko police station. He fled away under the cover of another prisoner. Lock-up in-charge Riaz Mughal said that the prisoner fled second time. First time he fled away three months ago from the same lock-up but his father caught him and handed over to the police. The police also apprehended the constable of the City court police lock-up, Ramiz Raja, over the negligence of his duty and registered the case under Section 223 and 224/A against him.
