A 3-member bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) has adjourned hearing of petition challenging holding of dual offices by president Asif Ali Zardari for 6 weeks. The 3-member SHC bench comprising justice Mashir Aalam, justice Gulzar Ahmad and justice Maqbool Baqir resumed the hearing of the case Monday. Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Omar Hayat appeared in the court on behalf of the government. DAG told the court that he had not received the copy of the case and the court directed that copies be provided to him. The petitioner Rashid A Akhund said in the court contempt of court notice be issued to law minister Babar Awan. What contempt of court Babar Awan has committed, court inquired. The petitioner however could not satisfy the court in this respect. The petitioner told that the summon which were issued to the president had been received. The petitioner has taken the ground in his application that president is symbol of federation and uncontroversial person while president Asif Ali Zardari has kept the office of co-chairperson of PPP with him as well. Therefore , he has become disputed, he added. President interferes in the powers of prime ministers and other legal and constitutional functionaries by virtue of his second office which is detrimental to the national politics, he said.
