Parties can help deweaponise City, says Khuhro

KARACHI - Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro while condemning the killings in Karachi has said the loss of innocent lives could not be tolerated. He was speaking to media after his meeting with High Commissioner of Canada to Pakistan at his office here on Monday. He said that the government was taking measures to maintain peace in the City. He emphasised more steps for maintaining peace in the City, adding the police and Rangers should take indiscriminate actions to control law and order situation. He was of the view that the police officers who failed to perform in curbing the crime have no right to remain on their posts any more.Khuhro supported the deweaponisation in the City, adding that Karachi could only be deweaponised with the help of all political parties in Sindh, while members of Sindh Assembly, if want, can make legislation in this regard.Rejecting the impression and allegation of nationalist parties of Sindh local government a step to divide the Sindh province, he declared that Sindh would always remain united and there was no possibility of dividing it, adding it was not a cake that might be sliced.Mr Khuhro said the PPP was the custodian of the rights o the Sindh province and would continue playing its role for safeguarding the interests of people of the province. He opined that no one can dare to divide Sindh, it could only be possible on our dead bodies, which never happened. He said the PPP would lead for rendering sacrifices if any difficult times converged on Sindh province.He advised Mian Nawaz Sharif, the chief of the PML-N, to stop dreaming of coming into power through back door. Khuhro said the general elections would be held after March 2013 as he believed the times were changed when democratic government were sent back home before completion of their tenures.He said the real face of Nawaz Sharif was exposed after Asghar Khan case verdict and thus the politics of Sharif Brothers would be shrunk to GT Road only. He said Nawaz Sharif should be disqualified as he got money from the ISI to rig the polls in 1990s.Earlier, Canadian High commissioner to Pakistan Mr Greg Giokas called on Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro in his chamber here on Monday. They discussed Pakistan-Canada relations, law and order situation, the matters of mutual interests as well as the legislation carried out in the Sindh Assembly. The Speaker also presented the traditional Sindhi gifts of Ajrak and cap to the Canadian High Commissioner.
