KARACHI - Five people including a suspected criminal were killed in separate incidents here on Wednesday. A man namely Daulat Khan, 33, was killed and his nephew Baz Muhammad was wounded in the firing incident that took place near Vita Chowrangi within the jurisdiction of Korangi Industrial Area police station.
Police shifted the body and the injured to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. A young man who has yet to be identified was also killed. Police said victim Daulat and injured Baz were relatives and were the residents of Korangi’s Bilal Colony. They used to deal in old cars. Police said both of them were going somewhere when unidentified persons opened indiscriminate fire at them. Police said another man, who has yet to be identified, was the attacker and might be killed by the firing of his own companion as the police had also recovered a motorcycle and a pistol from his possession. Police added the nature of the actual incident could be ascertained after the police will record the statement of the injured. Further investigation was underway.
Separately, a youth was found dead from the bushes near National Highway. Police said the victim was apparently killed after being kidnapped by unidentified persons. He was shot multiple times by armed men. Police said the body was shifted to morgue for identification.
In another incident, a passerby identified as Aftab, 34, was killed during crossfire between the police and the robbers in Block 16, Federal B Area. Police said the armed robbers were trying to flee after robbing the house of a person namely Saleem in the area. Police on routine patrol reached the site and tried to intercept them. The robbers opened fire at the police and tried to escape, resultantly, a passerby Aftab was killed by the robbers’ firing. The police have also arrested two robbers Abdul Jabbar and Malangi and recovered the looted cash and valuables. Gunmen riding a motorbike shot dead a cop while police claimed to have killed a bandit. Traffic police constable Mansha, 40, was posted at Gulbahar police post and was performing duty at Golimar Intersection where armed assailants riding a motorbike came and shot him twice.
Gunmen managed to flee while the victim was transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Police said the killing of cop was a part of the recent wave of target killings of police personnel.
Police claimed to have shot dead a bandit in an alleged encounter in Shah Latif police precincts. Police said some gunmen barged into a computer institute at Quaidabad, Murgi Khana Stop and looted the cell phones and other valuables from the institute. Bandits managed to flee from the scene when police tried to intercept them on suspicion. Bandits opened fire on the police to avoid arrest. During the encounter, one bandit sustained bullet wounds and died on the spot while his accomplice fled.
The killed bandit was rushed to hospital where he was identified as Akram Shah, 32. He hailed from Swat. The body was shifted to morgue after autopsy at JPMC.
