Lack of awareness causes various ailments

KARACHI - majority of people suffer from hypertension and other ailments due to lack of awareness about the importance of cleanliness, good health and proper nourishment.
Lyari Resource Centre Chairperson Habib Hasan stated this on the occasion of World Health Day 2013 celebrated with the theme of ‘’Play Day’’.
He said that it was imperative for people to understand the magnitude of good health and consume food in specific quantities.
He said that people should aim for healthier living and understand Right To Play program which focuses on holistic development of children and should welcome the program with open arms in the schools based in their area for change.
The purpose of the celebration was to understand the growing cases of hypertension in the city and create awareness amongst people and youth of the importance of living a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
The programme also shed light on how Right To Play’s program focused on contributing towards the holistic development of children and youth with health and hygiene being one of the important component’s of growth.
The Play Day witnessed active participation of young students from government schools based in Lyari Town, trainers from Karachi Youth Initiative (KYI) and Right To Play program, parents, teachers and community members. It also witnessed the presence of local dignitaries and officials of the area.
The celebrations comprised of play-based activities being led by KYI/Right To Play trainers falling under Right To Play’s Green Ball Resource focusing solely on health activities followed by interesting role plays performed by young students and trainers on ‘Clean Hands’ and ‘Fighting Diseases’ with an underlying theme on the importance of keeping clean.
Dr Sabrunnisa, an eminent doctor of Lyari Town shared her concerns on the dangers of high blood pressure and captured the audience’s attention over the growing health issue.
A candidate for MP from Lyari Town, Samiya Naaz appreciated participation of youth from Korangi and Sultanabad.
The Provincial Program Coordinator of Right To Play, Ratan Salem said: “We believe in creating a safer and healthy world for all children and youth by developing important life skills of respect, cooperation, teambuilding and confidence in them. We feel that by inculcating sports and play based activities in children’s lives and empowering them, we will give them an opportunity to grow and live a much healthier and happier life”. She further added that today’s event was important one as it brought together people of different communities and areas of Lyari Town and Korangi at one platform to work in mutual harmony and co-existence.
