Targeted op, target killings go hand in hand

KARACHI – A man and his son among six people were killed during targeted operation continued in the city.
On one side, police and rangers continue operation against target killing while on the other side target killing on political and sectarian grounds have also been continued in the city.
In the remits of Mubina Town police station, some gunmen riding two motorbikes sprayed bullets at a shop located near Jahangvi Chowk. They completed their swift operation and managed to flee and left 58-year-old Qalbe Abbas and his 28-year-old son Mussarat Abbas dead.
The incident took place near a police station where a number of police and rangers posts have also existed. Police rushed to the spot and handed over the bodies to the family after autopsy at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police suspected sectarian killing was the motive behind the attack.
In another incident, police found a tortured body from link road of Steel Town and shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the victim was identified as Amir Shaikh alias Lamba affiliated with MQM Ranchore Line Sector. He went missing on Friday. Scores of MQM activists reached the JPMC and staged protest against the killing of Sheikh.
An activist of Sunni Tehreek was gunned down in Shah Faisal Colony.
Police said that Kashif Shah, resident of Shah Faisal Colony, left home for his shop located near his house when some gunmen riding a bike targeted him. He sustained multiple bullet wounds and died during treatment. Scores of ST workers rushed to the JPMC and also ransacked the emergency ward and chanted slogans against the authorities concerned.
Another ST worker Kashif Qadri was wounded in the remits of Garden police station and succumbed to injuries during treatment. Police said that the victim was a local leader of ST Garden area. He was shot dead by unknown assailants on Friday and rushed to JPMC where he succumbed to injuries on Saturday.
In the remits of Mochko police station, some gunmen shot dead a passerby namely Shah Mehmood. Police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to hospital. Police failed to ascertain the motive behind the murder. In another incident of firing, some gunmen barged into the house and shot dead a young man in the remits of Shah Latif police station. Police said that gunmen entered the house of Raja Junaid and shot him twice. He sustained bullet wounds and shifted to JPMC where doctors pronounced him dead.
Meanwhile, rangers and police arrested at least 30 suspects during the drive of targeted operation continued in various areas of the City. Heavy contingent of Rangers conducted targeted operation in different areas of Lyari and Bin Qasim and arrested 18 suspects and claimed to have recovered huge cache of weapons.
Similarly police conducted raids in Khamiso Goth, New Karachi and booked at least a dozen suspects and recovered weapons.
