KARACHI: Around 142 pirated copies of Oxford University Press textbooks were recovered in a successful raid carried out at a bookstore named Mahmood Book Bank in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Thursday.
The confiscated textbook series included New Countdown, New Oxford Social Studies for Pakistan, New Oxford Primary Science, Oxford History for Pakistan, Nardban-e-Urdu, and New Oxford Modern English.
The raid conducted by the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) and police officials along with Roving Source—a security concern engaged in providing anti- piracy services and copyright protection in Pakistan? was a part of the efforts to combat book piracy. The raid was conducted upon receiving reports of the illegal printing of Oxford textbooks at Mahmood Book Bank.
The entire stock of the pirated books has been impounded at the Shahrah-e-Faisal Police Station where FIR No. 72/2014 has been registered against the violators under section 66, 66A and 66B of the Copyright Act 1962.
The owner of the printing press has been detained by the police for further interrogation.–Staff Reporter
