Three MQM workers gunned down

KARACHI - Three workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement including its joint in-charge of Baluchistan Committee were shot dead in separate incidents on Tuesday.
38-year-old Ashraf Khan was shot dead near his home.
According to the police at least two armed men on a motorcycle intercepted Ashraf Khan on a main road near his house. The police said that when the armed men opened fire on the victim he retaliated with his weapon which injured one of the two assailants. The attackers later managed to escape. Ashraf was shot at least four times.
He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. SHO Shahzad Ilyas said that besides having affiliation with MQM, deceased was worked as clerk at Excise and Taxation Department, adding that the police was searching nearby hospitals to make arrest of the injured assailant.
Two more workers of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) were shot dead in Nazimabad within the limits of Rizvia police station. Police said that the deceased were identified as Ashraf alias Guddu and Abdur Rehman. Police said that both victims were sitting near their residence when at least two armed riders shot them both and managed to escape. Both sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the way of Hospital. Police shifted their bodies to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for autopsy.
Following the incidents, scores of MQM leaders and workers reached the hospital. MQM chief Altaf Hussain condemned the killing of Ashraf Khan, the joint in charge of Balochistan Committee. "With Ashraf Khan's killing, the party has lost a brave worker," said Altaf, urging the army chief and the federal government to take notice.
