Dr Asim corruption case: First witness records statement in Accountability Court

KARACHI: First witness has recorded his statement in Rs 462 billion corruption case against the former petroleum minister Dr Asim and others in Accountability Court (AC).

AC took up for hearing reference of Rs 462 billion corruptions against Dr Asim, former MD, Sui Southern Gas and others.

The first witness Raheel Shah Nawaz, who is employee of a private audit company appeared in the court and told in his statement on oath that he has conducted audit of accounts of Zia ud Din hospital till 2010. He has not observed anywhere that free treatment was provided therein or any welfare oriented work was done there. The said hospital is completely a commercial hospital.

He further told the court that during the course of audit no evidence on corruption was found by him. Company had issued letter to the institution following a transparent investigation.  The said letter has been given to NAB as well.

He stated, during the audit it came to his knowledge that work was not being done in the hospital under income tax ordinance.  Income Tax office was informed in this respect.

The witness said, he had never met Dr Asim Hussain and he was seeing him for the first time in the court. He had met Irfan and Abdul Majid from hospital management, during the audit.
