KARACHI - The Sindh High Court on Saturday declared former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf ineligible for Parliament membership, reported a private TV channel.
The 3-member SHC bench, led by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqir, said that Musharraf did not meet the criteria set in Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
The Sindh High Court issued detailed verdict into disqualification of Musharraf for election.
The bench further said that decisions taken by Musharraf led to Pakistan’s image being hurt. The verdict also declared that the former military ruler misused his powers and abrogated the Constitution. The order noted that law is equally applied on the civil and defence institutions of the country and that the authority is used in accordance with the law not at gunpoint.
Musharraf had returned to Pakistan in March 2013 after nearly four years of self-imposed exile to contest the May 11 general election.
Election officials had barred him from running for the National Assembly, effectively derailing his attempts to regain a place in politics by standing at the polls.
