JI wants recovery of missing persons

KARACHI – The chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Muhammad Hussain Mehanti said nefarious practice of abducting citizens, initiated during the tenure of former dictator Pervez Musharif, was still on full swing.The Jamaat-e-Islami JI Karachi staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club, on Sunday, demanding immediate release of missing persons including JI deputy secretary general Jacobabad Gul Hassan and other leaders Osama waheed, Ajmal waheed, Faiq Siddiqui and others, from across the country particularly from Sindh and Balochistan.A number of human rights activists and JI workers, heirs of missing persons were present at the demonstration. Protestors, carrying placards and banners, inscribed with demands to release missing persons, chanted slogans against the government and military establishment inhuman polices.While addressing the protest demonstration, Muhammad Hussain Mehanti said that there is an elongated list of people, missing from across the country particularly from Balochistan and Sindh provinces. He said that unfortunately the nefarious practice of abducting citizens, initiated during the tenure of former dictator Pervez Musharif, was still on full swing in the rule of a democratic government. He further said that a large number of people, including JI workers, went missing but none was responding from the government. He said that the government through its psychopathic behavior was raising unrest among masses.He said that a minimal number of missing persons were released, while a massive share of these people were missed forever or were yet to be released.He talked about the great agony, heirs of missing persons were facing. He was of the view that secret agencies of the country are for people. He added that “We own our agencies and their high-ups should realise that irking own citizens is not fair and is worst injustice.”In this regard, he hailed the role of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He said that SC summoned bureaucracy, law enforcement agencies and spy agencies to get missing persons released, but unfortunately no solid measure was so far taken by the government to resolve the issue. He further said that the SC in its verdict made it clear that the provincial government of Balochistan failed to discharge its duties and should resign immediately. He further said the government of Sindh would also be dissolved, if the SC takes the matter of missing person in Sindh.Mehnati said that all the missing persons would be recovered, whenever JI would be in power. He was of the view that a peaceful Islamic revolution would ensure the rights of citizens in the country. He vowed that JI would continue its struggle for missing persons and assured the heirs of affected people that JI would take all measure including besieging Chief Minister House, Governor House and even presidency, if needed to recover missing persons.JI Karachi general secretary Naseem Siddiqui in his speech strictly criticised the behavior of the government and spy agencies. He said that secret agencies should work in their limitations. They have nothing to do with political issues and should never intervene in political affairs. JI leader Birjees Ahmed, JI leader Younas Barai and other were also addressed protest rally.
