KARACHI (PPI) - A division bench of Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain & Justice Mehmood Alam Rizvireserved order on 56 identical petitions against alleged illegal recruitment of Assistant Sub-Inspectors in Larkana & Sukkur. Petitioners Khalid Inayat Jagirani & 55 others approached SHC against Sindh Home Secretary, IG Police Sindh, Regional Police Officers Sukkur, Larkana & others. Their counsel Nawaz Sheikh, Abdul Jabbar Lakho and Habibur Rehman Jaskani submitted respondents announced vacancies for posts of ASI at Larkana & Sukkur regions in 1995. Petitioners applied & were declared successful in physical, written, viva voce tests. But, Regional Police Officers trampling merits appointed many people, who even did not appear in tests. They stated appointments made on political grounds deprived them of due rights. Counsels prayed to declare petitioners eligible for aforesaid posts & direct respondents to appoint them as ASIs at Sukkur & Larkana. AIG (Legal) submitted there were 125 newly created posts of ASI in Larkana and 45 in Sukkur at time of recruitment. He sought direction for petitioners to appear in competitive examination to be held shortly by Sindh Public Service Commission, as per Police Order 2002, so that could be considered. Hearing on Gymkhana's possession case adjourned Sindh High Court Monday adjourned till December 24, 2008 hearing of suit filed by National Academy of Performing Arts against Sindh government's order to take over possession of Hindu Gymkhana, Karachi. Plaintiffs Arshad Mehmood, renowned musician, and President/ CEO NAPA Zia Mohyeddin moved SHC through Advocate Muhammad Ali Khan against Sindh Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Social Welfare. They submitted NAPA, having over 200 students, was striving to promote performing arts. Students from low income groups benefit from facility. In order to provide better facilities to students, NAPA planned to set up theatre at distance from Hindu Gymkhana under UAE funded project worth Rs 120 million. A building plan was approved by Karachi Building Control Authority. But, defendant terminated lease agreement, alleging NAPA of breaching agreement by raising construction at Hindu Gymkhana premises. Plaintiffs stated no violation of Heritage Act 1994 was committed, therefore, defendant's act was illegal. They prayed to set aside impunged order of taking over possession of gymkhana by provincial government. AG Sindh Yusuf Laghari & Additional AG Sarwar Khan appeared for defendant. Justice Amir Hani Muslim adjourned hearing till December 24, 2008.
