Cop among two killed in violence

KARACHI - Two people including a cop were shot dead in separate incidents here on Monday.
A police constable was shot dead near Z-2 bus stop in Farid Colony, Orangi Town.
The victim was identified as Rashid Iqbal. He was posted to Specialised Investigation Team of District West. Police officials said two armed men riding a motorcycle shot him dead soon after he left home. He died on the spot. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to the family for burial.
It is worth mentioning here that over 200 security personnel have so far been killed during the targeted operation. Mostly the cops were targeted in the District West area - a stronghold of militant outfits. Separately, Shahzad, 30, shot dead at Sector 11-D within the jurisdictions of New Karachi police station. Police officials said the victim was the resident of same area. The incident took place near his home when he was going to his meat shop. Three armed culprits riding two motorcycles intercepted him and tried to loot cash and other valuables from him. Police officials said the culprits opened fire at him over offering resistance in a robbing bid, however, the culprits managed to escape after committing the crime. He was shot once in his chest. The injured was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to injuries during treatment. A case has been registered against unidentified persons.
