Rangers kill three suspects in ‘encounter’

KARACHI - The Sindh Rangers claimed on Thursday to have gunned down three gangsters in an encounter in the Yousuf Goth locality.

Heavy contingents of Rangers conducted a raid on the hideout of gangsters in Yousuf Goth. The gangsters allegedly opened fire at the troops as the Rangers started cordoning off the locality. The Rangers retaliated and killed three gangsters during an exchange of fire. Two Rangers personnel and three gangsters were injured in the exchange of fire.  The gangsters were taken to the Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. They were later identified as Nawaz Ali alias Joga Jamali, Amin Chamber and Junaid. “All three gangsters belonged to the gang involved in Lyari gang war,” said the Rangers spokesperson. “They were wanted in a number of cases of target killing and terrorism.”

The Rangers spokesperson said that Nawaz Ali got three-month militancy training with the Taliban in Chaman, Balochistan, in 2011. He was involved in 66 cases of target killing, 11 cases of hand-grenade attacks and a number of cases of extortion and street crime. The remaining two gangsters were involved in more than 30 cases of target killing. The Rangers also claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from the suspects.
